the very first recording work by one of beijing’s most active musicians and performers zhao ziyi.
ziyi was born in 2007 in beijing. he has a strong desire of swallowing whatever he need and of turning himself a nameless formation of the cheapest noise, embarrassed silence and a mirror of the witnesses’ own existence.
by playing and recording this piece he stands with all of us, who can’t bear the meanlessness of time and words any more. there is nothing experimental here. but just life.
“The sky is empty, gentle, motionless, blue, red, white, black, a place to escape into. That kind of beauty is like music. Occasionally I look up at the sky, I feel myself being squashed to the ground, and then I embrace the sky. The sky can sometimes be called “you” as well. Every day, the endless sky is like home, and this world is a world that I am familiar with, so I want to kill the sky too. Dying in a world with a sky makes me feel reassuring. Every skipping school afternoon, I would run to the playground where no one was there and look at the sky in a daze, and then the sky turned red. The sky is a place that contains all longings, where I am violently dealing with myself.”
